What is a domain name and do I need one?
A domain name is what you type in the address bar of your Internet browser in order to get to a web site. Our domain name is boyddesignstudio.com. In order to set up a web site I highly recommend that you purchase a domain name, such as your business name (yourbusinessname.com). There are some free services on the Internet, such as Geocities, that offer free hosting for your web site, however they will not allow your domain name, so your URL (what you will have to type in your browser to get to the site) will be something like www.geocities.com/yourbusinessname. While this is fine for personal web sites, in order to create a professional image of your business and transmit it to your customers, we strongly advise purchasing your own domain name.
